Get To Know NC: What Is Choir Tour?

On Sunday, February 28th, the Nebraska Christian Choir embarked on what has long been a distinctive of NC: Spring Choir Tour.

Choir tour originated in the spring of 1960, the school’s first year of existence, when the choir traveled around northwestern Nebraska. Each spring since, the choir has sung in a variety of churches and other venues. Hundreds of Nebraska Christian students have participated in choir tour over the years, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Current NC Music Director Mike Flynn explained the purposes of choir tour: “The first purpose is to let the students sing for the Lord in other churches. The second is to let them minister to other people with the music and their testimonies. The last one is to be good witnesses for our school and to make our school known; a lot of people have never heard of Nebraska Christian before. Also, there are some parents, who want to send their child to Nebraska Christian, who come to see us. Many students after they graduate tell me that the choir tour was their most fun memory from school when they look back.”

Overall, students enjoy their time on tour, even though they sometimes complain about the long days and early mornings. “The choir tour is fun, and I really enjoy participating in some school activities,” said Kevin Yu, a freshman who recently went on his first choir tour.

You have two more opportunities to see the choir on tour this school year: March 13 (York Evangelical Free at 10 a.m.; Columbus First Baptist at 5 p.m.) and April 3 (Hillcrest Evangelical Free in Seward at 8:15 and 11 a.m.; Grace Bible Fellowship in Central City at 6 p.m.).
