Carnival Promotes New Friendships

At Nebraska Christian, one yearly tradition is a back-to-school carnival. On Thursday, August 25th, on the football practice field, students enjoyed plenty of activities such as musical chairs, bouncing house, twister and face painting. Participants in the games and activities were able to get tickets, which they exchanged for prizes.

Angela Mate, a senior from Kenya, said, “My favorite activity is face painting, because I got to know many elementary students.” Face painting was one of fun elements in the carnival; it not only provided an opportunity to express students’ creativity, but also strengthen their companionship. From introducing themselves to each other and communicating what kind of pictures or symbols people wanted on their faces, the painters made many friends. Girls’ dorm mom Kaity Flynn, who ran the face painting booth with the dorm girls, said: “The carnival is a neat way for the girls and me to interact with the elementary students and their parents. We love seeing the smiles and joy that a simple face painting can bring.”

Through the carnival, new students and new families met current students and families, enjoyed several games, and had a great time together.
