Band Students Participate in Grace University Festival

On Friday, October 28, Nebraska Christian Band students went to Grace University to play in the band festival that they were holding. The students attended workshops and had performances from 2-4 p.m., held another rehearsal after supper, and then participated in a concert at 7:00 p.m.

Four other bands also participated in the festival: the Grace University Community Concert Band, Omaha Christian Academy Band, Omaha Homeschool Advanced Full Orchestra, and Orchestra Omaha. Each group played one or two numbers alone, and then all of the groups played “McBeth” together for the finale.

Mike Flynn, the music teacher at Nebraska Christian, shared this: “Our band played for clinician Dr. Kenneth Meints and had a session with him. Our students also attended woodwind, brass, and percussion seminars put on by professionals. The most fun was the final concert. We played a couple of songs by ourselves and then combined to play with all the groups a song called ‘McBeth.’” The Nebraska Christian Band is glad to have been able to go to the Grace University Band Festival and can’t wait for next year’s band festival.
