2013 Cross Country Preview

IMG_4770Coming off an exciting year in cross country (the boys’ team was the Class D champion), Mrs. Janet Landrigan will again be coaching the girls’ and boys’ cross country this season. Coach Landrigan is entering her 5th season as NC’s head coach. I asked Coach Landrigan a number of questions concerning cross country and her teams.

What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of this year’s team?

The experienced leaders back from last season are our biggest strength. We have two returning state medalists (Hans Epp and Warren Dexter), and most of the state championship team is back from last season. The seniors and juniors who ran at the state meet offer great leadership and advice to the younger and less experienced runners. One of our weaknesses would be the new runners who need to log in their miles.

What was your most memorable coaching experience?

My most memorable year of coaching cross country would have been the 2010 team because that was the first championship team. It was like living a dream!

Why do you coach cross country?

I choose to coach cross country because I love to run, and I want to help others experience the benefits of the sport.

What do you hope to accomplish by the end of the season?

I hope that each runner will have done more than they ever dreamed they could! I want them to give thanks to God for the opportunities, abilities, and blessings He has given them. I also want them to know that special bond and respect distance runners have for one another.

This year the cross country team consists of seniors Rachel McHargue, Hannah Myers, and Hans Epp; juniors Hannah Mead, Warren Dexter, Joshua Frederick, Adrian Epp, C.J. Ruybalid, and Jerron Tiemeyer; sophomores Katie Cumpston, Matthew Myers, and Cameron Langemeier; freshmen Rachel Epp, Hudson Downing, and Han Park. The junior high team includes Ryan Dexter, Sydney Fuehrer, Halle Strong, and Bennett Zaruba.
