Teacher Feature: Kaity Flynn (’06)

IMG_0533Meet the new girls’ dorm “mom” for the second semester of the 2014-2015 year, NC alum Kaity Flynn!

Flynn said, “It is my honor to invest in the lives of the girls who live in the dorm on a daily basis.” She also tutors and plans the activities for the dorm. Flynn will be graduating from Moody Bible Institute in May with a Bachelor’s in TESOL, which stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She is also working with the University of Nebraska at Kearney to receive her teaching certificate in 7th-12th English Education and in ESL (English as a Second Language).

In her spare time, Flynn loves to read and create. She said, “I knit, spin, sew, and if I get a chance, I love to sing and play piano with my sister Marilla Flynn.” Flynn’s parents are choir and band teacher Mike Flynn and 9th-12th science and 8th grade math teacher Dee Flynn. Flynn’s older siblings Mandy (’95) and Michael (’97) are also NC grads, and her younger sister Marilla is an NC sophomore.

Flynn said, “I came to NC as a senior. Mr. Larry Hoff approached me to work on conversational English with a Japanese student. It was that moment that set me on the path, albeit a round about one, to pursuing ESL as a career and a mission.” When asked about a particular verse or passage that affected her life, she said, “One passage that has been rumbling around my mind and has been on my heart for the past two months is 1 John 2:1-11. In a nut shell it talks about ‘If you’re going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk.’” There is a lot of truth in that statement, and we must truly count the cost of our walk with the Lord and challenge ourselves to take up our cross daily.

The NC family is happy to welcome Flynn home again!
