The Meaning of Easter

Easter for some means bunny rabbits and Easter eggs, and for others it means spending time with family. But what does Easter really mean? For a Christian, Easter is a time to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The gift of salvation and forgiveness of sin was given to mankind from God through Jesus’ death on the cross. That is the greatest gift you can receive in life, and we should celebrate our Lord and Savior in remembering Him.

Sometimes it’s easy to just pass by another holiday with a lot of candy, good food, and spending time with family (which is important), but also it’s important to stop and take a moment to reflect on Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. As the song “In Christ Alone” says, “’Til on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied, for every sin on Him was laid. Here in the death of Christ I live…Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again.” This is a reason to celebrate! Jesus conquered sin and death so that we may have a relationship with God. That is love. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

As the Easter season is coming to a close, don’t forget the true meaning and purpose of it. Let us never grow calloused to the message of the cross and the love of God displayed there.
