Many schools present an “Athlete of the Year” award. Nebraska Christian chooses to recognize students who, in addition to athletic accomplishment, exhibit strong Christian character. This award, the Shield Award, is typically given to one male and one female athlete, though in some years, three athletes are chosen. The head coaches and athletic director select the students who are honored. On May 7, Athletic Director Larry Schreiber presented the Shield Award to seniors Hope Baldwin and Matt Swanson at the annual Awards & Scholarship Assembly.

Baldwin, who has attended NC for three years, is the daughter of Tad Baldwin and Nicole Stalbird. She has participated in volleyball, basketball, and track. Swanson, the son of Doug & Karen Swanson, has participated in football, basketball, wrestling, and track. He has attended Nebraska Christian for six years.
