Drama Team Prepares for District Competition

The Nebraska Christian drama class has been practicing its latest performance, Under Jekyll’s Hyde by Tim Kelly, for the first semester. Under Jekyll’s Hyde is a spoof on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Crazy characters, terrible jokes, and wild plot twists make this play humorous and fun.

The drama class is well-prepared for this year. Everyone contributed his or her ideas and efforts into this performance. They were willing to practice, cooperate, and improve. The members are as follows: Wendy Bornmann, Marilla Flynn, Juan Lasso, Christina Bailey, Danae Burdett, Jeremiah Ebel, Madison Felt, Sydney Fuehrer, Corina Ge, Sophie Guo, Alyssa Gustafson, Brayden Gustafson, Jessica Hilderbrand, Michelle Huang, Lydia Langemeier, Makenna Loy, Janie Mousel, Anna Musgrave, Kate Pipher, Alyssa Prettyman, Cole Ruybalid, Reagan Williams, Micah Smith, Katie Nyberg, Rachel Epp, Cameron Langemeier, and Matthew Myers.

Compared with last year’s drama class, there have been some improvements on stage properties. Brayden Gustafson built three backdrops, and the NC Shop Class built four platforms. Many more costumes and much more elaborate sets were added into the drama class.

They performed on Tuesday, November 24th, at the Goldenrod Conference competition, and they placed second. This Wednesday, December 2nd, they will compete in districts at Central Valley in Scotia. If they place first at districts, they will qualify for the state competition.

Prior to the conference competition, coach and director Mrs. Karmen Hamer said, “This team has been phenomenal to work with. I hope to be in the top half of the teams at both conference and districts. First place at district takes us to state, and we definitely have the ability to do that. Regardless of our place or score, this team has done an amazing job!”

We pray that they will do their best in their next performance, and we wish them the best as they attempt to make it to State One-Act. We believe their hard work will glorify the name of our God.
