History

A group of parents from the Sandhills of Nebraska dreamed of starting a Christian boarding high school for their children to attend. In March of 1959, Nebraska Christian High School was incorporated with 15 corporation members, each of whom donated $50. After much prayer and research regarding a suitable location for the school, the vacated Nebraska Central College campus near Central City was purchased for a down payment of $1,000 and payments of $3,000 per year for the next three years.

In September of 1959, Nebraska Christian Schools opened its doors for 38 high school students taught by six teachers. Dormitories were opened for both boys and girls that same year. In 1971, A junior high program was added with grades kindergarten through six following in 1977. NCS has been enriched over the years by the addition of international students from around the world who reside in the dorms and take a variety of intensive English acquisition and mainstream classes.

Over the years, buildings have been added to campus in order to meet the needs of the growing school. Our elementary building was renovated and new playground equipment added in 2004.  In 2007, the new high school building opened to students, and our industrial technology facility received an upgrade in 2011.  In addition, a brand new girls' dorm (Elliot Hall) and renovated areas of the boys dorm opened in 2015.  A commercial greenhouse has been added to our campus as well.  In 2019, the Administration Building Preservation Project helped to seal and preserve the building for future generations. And in late 2019, a new entryway, commons area, and ADA restrooms were added onto the existing gym building.  In December, 2023, the newly renovated Administration Building opened for use with redesigned office spaces on the main level and new classrooms on the garden level.
