Meet an Eagle: Katie Entz

IMG951452From setting a volleyball to faking a British accent in drama class, many of our NC students are involved in extracurricular activities. Not only are they involved in activities during school hours, but in their home life as well. Katie Entz, a junior in high school, happens to have a hobby that takes a bit more skill than just changing the way you hold your tongue while speaking. Katie loves to show horses. She grew up loving horses and, at the age of seven, while watching a horse show at a county fair, decided she wanted to show horses herself. “And the rest was history!” Entz stated. “I’ve been showing horses since I was seven years old and riding them since I was a baby.”

A typical day showing horses consists of waking up bright and early around 5:30 a.m. and riding the arena, making sure the horse is listening and making no mistakes. You then feed your horse and begin the show at 8:00 a.m. Katie usually shows in three to four classes per day. The show will usually end around 11:00 a.m., and the rest of the day is hers.

NC1_5939Katie has won second place a few times in the past, and she also won the year end high point award for her class. She continues to ride until this day, making her friends and family proud.
